267. Arabella asks: What if Fred was in charge? (Time Vortex Part 1)

Mr. Eric has left from at home for the holidays (with Ginger and a sitter and a bunch of treats). What choice does Fred have but to create a Time Vortex that swallows up all of What If World?

Lessons include: Give you pets some extra love on the holidays, as it can be a really tough time for them; Love doesn’t go away when we can’t see each other.

This story is inspired in part by our friend’s new children’s book, “The Great Ball Game.” Adapted by Rebecca Sheir and illustrated by Ojibwe Woodland artist Joshua Pawis-Steckley, "The Great Ball Game” is inspired by Native American and First Nations tales about a dispute between the animals and the birds over who is best. You can find it — along with Circle Round’s other picture books, “The Tale of the Unwelcome Guest” and “A Taste of Honey” — at your favorite online bookseller or at your local bookstore. You can find the links to all of Rebecca’s book and her amazing podcast, Circle Round, on her website: WBUR.org/circleround

264. Margot asks: What if Davey Jones’s Locker held a parrot? (w/ Eddie Gamarra)

Eddie joins us as Davey Jones, the Sea Monkey King of the Pirates. He and Petey are on a journey to find Petey’s long lost brother, Jack Parrot. They’ll encounter Scalebeard as well as a dragon’s hoard of magic lunchboxes.

Lessons include: There is enough for everyone if we all work to share it; we all need quality time together, as well as quality time alone!

Eddie Gamarra is the executive producer of the new Netflix film, Wendell & Wild! It’s a beautiful, funny, weird, heartfelt, and sometimes scary stop-motion film. Eddie has been involved in a number of Middle-School aged book-adaptations, and the lessons in Wendell & Wild will be best enjoyed and processed by tweens, teens, and adults.
